Artsakh is an autonomous republic that borders Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. It is officially known as the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), but Artsakh is its local name. It declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, but the region was part of Azerbaijan until 1992, when the Azeri government attempted to commit ethnic cleansing against the ethnic Armenians, who then rose up to fight for their lives. The war ended in a ceasefire on May 12, 1994. Today, the government of Artsakh controls the region, but it is still claimed by Azerbaijan and is not internationally recognized.
There is a lot of misinformation on the internet about the NKR, and the conflict that led to its independence, and many international news sources are biased in favor of the Azeri side. This website, and the Justice For Artsakh movement is dedicated to raising awareness of the conflict and providing accurate information on this topic.
